This makes it a brilliant tool for research, especially for Children. The only problem is, there is a lot of information or websites most parents wouldn't want their children to see, as some of these websites may contain inappropriate material. Such material including sex, drugs and hate-related content, racism, violence and pornography. THE BASIC RULES

There is a good reason why the internet was nicknamed the "Information Super highway!" Which is very relevant to the safety of Children on the Internet. As most responsible parents wouldn't let their children run around on the highway the same principle should also be applied to the Web!

  • Children Shouldn't be left alone to their own devices when on-line. If they have to be left at a computer, temporarily disconnect them from the internet, try saving pages from sites you trust in your favourites folder, at least this way they can work off-line with the site.
  • Educate your child with regards to what information should not be given out like: Personal details, emails, names etc especially in chat rooms.
  • Guide your child to safe sites and show them how to search safely and what sites are reputable. Be interactive.
  • Make sure your computer is Visible and can be seen while your child is on it.
  • Your child's Health is also important and staring endlessly at a computer screen isn't all that good for their eyesight. Make sure there is at least a 10 minute break in every hour spent staring at something else a different distance away than what the screen is.

Children Surfing the Internet should have fun doing so, but the safety of it should also be a key component of every family's house rules. Adhering to such rules will not only save you a lot of heartache but can prevent your computer from being infected by the many malicious virus and spyware often found on non child friendly sites.
